Isipathana Vs St . Thomas

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia who had a great last year are in a battle to save their season as they have been beaten thrice so far in the inter-school league rugby tournament. So, the Thomians will be desperate to salvage something out of the ongoing season when they take on Isipathana College at Havelock Park today.

S. Thomas’ are captained by wing three quarter Naveen Henakankanamge, who too is having an ordinary season. He was used as a centre where has struggled for tries, but last season at wing three quarter he destroyed defenses scoring over 15 tries.Thomians might bring him back to wing three quarter position in this game hoping to maximize their chances in terms of scoring and at the same time that may weaken their defense.Flanker Christian De Lile was among the tries last week despite losing to Royal College. The flanker who missed some of the matches due to injury could be a key member in that Thomian forward pack Isipathana however, will be too lethal for them. The defending champions were outstanding last week against Zahira College, but they will need to maintain that good momentum.

Captain Sumudu Rankothge was all over the Zahirians as he single handedly set up three tries drawing defenders towards him before releasing his wing three quarters. He was the highest try score for Isipathana last season, so maybe he would like few more tries under his name. Chamod Fernando has also done well for Pathana in terms of kicking. They struggled to find a place kicker in the early stages of the season, but he has made himself the number one kicker of the team. Pathana of course are the favourites for this game, but Thomians just cannot afford to lose another game having already lost three matches in six games.
