Another anxiously awaited Rugby encounter of the Rugby League was played off in Kandy today. Isipathana College, Colombo took on the lads from Katugastota St. Antony’s at the Nittawela Grounds
Even though both teams lacked crucial focus on their line –outs, the Pathana lads simply did not let that element obstruct their way to the end of the line at this game.
At Lemons, Isipathana , was leading the game by 12 points to 03.
Both the wing three quarters of the Pathana side had a fabulous time on the field today. Especially open side wing three quarter Mekalanada Promod was in full siwing scoring two tries to take the game away from the Eagles. They were simply brilliant with their defense and they were untouchable while they were on the run with the ball. Both, the blind side and the open side wing three quarters scored 03 tries respectively. Flanker and deputy skipper Sajid Suhaib was another bloke who came in good for the green shirts. Sajid who played his customary aggressive rugby went over for two tries to set the tone for the visitors.
Meanwhile Devinda Prasad was the key element in the Pathana side today. From the very beginning he was dominating the game with the immense amount of skill that he is blessed with. Devinda playing as Fly- Half as always had a good time with his kicks and chips and chases. He certainly added lot of strength to the Pathana line in this game. Prasad who had a good outing today put in two penalties while full back and senior man Malik
Jumad put over a solitary penalty.
