Isipathana Dominate Second Leg, Claim Overall Championship

Isipathana College clinched the Inter School segment of the Sri Lanka Super 7s Rugby tournament powered by Dialog as they dominated St. Joseph’s College 33-12 in the Cup final of the second leg which concluded at Race Course International Rugby Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.

One of Isipathana College’s top performers in the recently concluded Inter School season, Chamod Fernando opened the scoring for Isipathana in the second minute of the match. The Sri Lanka under-18 wing three quarter scored either side of half-time to complete a hat-trick while Randy Silva also bagged a brace for Isipathana in a commanding win.

Isipathana – Sri Lanka’s Manchester United

Forget what Manchester United have achieved in the last three years, but if there is anything that can be compared to Isipathana College’s dominance in schools rugby in Sri Lanka, it’s nothing but Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Isipathana who have been playing schools rugby for little over 50 years have already bagged 17 league titles while sealing seven Knockout Trophies. Perhaps it would not be ideal to compare this with the 20 Premier League titles Manchester United have won, obviously in a different sport played at the highest level. However, one cannot ignore the manner in which both these teams have gone about their business dominating sides. They have been so good for so long that people expect them to win pretty much every match, and every time they lose, they make headlines the following day.

Royal Blown Away By Pathana Storm .

The final of the Milo Under 20 Schools President’s Trophy knockout tournament was anything but the thriller it was expected to be, with Isipathana College crushing Royal College 47 points to 12 in a one-sided game at the Race Course International Stadium yesterday. The Pathanians had done their homework and had the Royalists struggling for survival, racing to a comfortable 19 points to 7 lead at the breather and they added a further 28 points in the second half, as opposed to the solitary try scored by the latter.
